Brewers Finish Regular Season in Style With 6-4 Win Over Cardinals
The Milwaukee Brewers closed out the regular season with a 6-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, securing their franchise-record 103rd win of the season.
Jacob Misiorowski delivered another outstanding performance on the mound, throwing 5⅓ scoreless innings while allowing just two hits. He struck out several Cardinals hitters and finished the regular season with a remarkable 1.80 ERA, the best single-season mark ever recorded by a qualifying starting pitcher in Brewers history.
Milwaukee wasted no time taking control of the game. The Brewers scored three runs in the first inning after Garrett Mitchell, Jake Bauers, Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang opened the game with consecutive singles. Turang’s hit drove in a run and gave him his 100th RBI of the season.
The Brewers extended their advantage in the third inning when Gary Sánchez launched a two-run home run to right field, giving Milwaukee a 5-0 lead. The homer was Sánchez’s 12th of the season and completed his home-run tally against all 30 MLB teams.
Milwaukee added another run in the fourth inning when Chourio delivered his third hit of the game, driving in a run to make it 6-0.
Chourio finished the afternoon with three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs, ending the regular season with a .291 batting average.
The Cardinals mounted a late comeback in the eighth inning. After César Prieto tripled and Pedro Pagés walked, St. Louis scored on a fielder’s choice before Iván Herrera drew a walk. Nolan Bernal then launched a three-run homer into the right-field stands, cutting Milwaukee’s lead to 6-4.
The Brewers responded by turning to Shane Drohan, who stopped the rally and protected the lead. He then returned for the ninth inning and closed out the game, earning his second save of the season.
Milwaukee’s victory completed a sweep of the Cardinals and capped a historic regular season with 103 wins.
Along with Misiorowski’s dominant outing and Chourio’s three-hit performance, Brice Turang reached the 100-RBI milestone and Sánchez provided the key two-run homer.
The Brewers now turn their attention to the postseason after finishing the regular season on a winning note.
