On Tuesday, ESPN’s Greg McElroy made a bold prediction about Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown. Appearing on the latest episode of Always College Football, McElroy offered his take during a segment focused on bold quarterback opinions, stating that he expects Brown to be Auburn’s top performer by November.
“I think most people kind of see it coming,” McElroy said of Brown’s rise. “But I think he is the key for Alex Golesh … if Auburn is going to exceed expectations. Because he can do everything. He’s already familiar with the entire receiving corps. He’s one of only two quarterbacks in the country to throw for over 3,000 yards and rush for over 800 yards in the same season.”
“SEC defensive coordinators are going to have to craft a specific game plan for Byrum Brown … and I think Byrum Brown will rise to the occasion.”
Brown was one of the highest-rated transfer quarterbacks to enter the portal last offseason following a breakout 2025 campaign at South Florida under Golesh. Now on the Plains, he’ll operate in the same offensive system and, as McElroy noted, will play alongside many of the same teammates from his USF days.
Brown is a major reason why expectations are growing for Auburn heading into the 2026 season. After back-to-back 5–7 finishes, the Tigers are hoping to at least return to bowl eligibility this coming year.
