Even though the transfer portal window has closed, Kansas State men’s basketball continued to reshape its roster. The Wildcats added another forward, this time securing a big man from Miami.

Kansas State finalizes its roster with Miami forward Timo Malovec
Timo Malovec, a forward who played at the University of Miami, will enter the 2026-27 season with three years of eligibility remaining. During his freshman year with the Hurricanes, he averaged 4.2 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game.

Despite his youth, Malovec is far from a typical forward. He earned minutes early in Miami’s nonconference schedule last season and posted double-digit scoring efforts in four separate games.

He recorded a season-high 16 points against Southern Mississippi, along with a season-high 31 minutes. In that matchup, he shot 5-of-11 from the field, including four three-pointers.

Malovec brings Big 12 experience to Kansas State
Not every incoming transfer, including Malovec, has faced significant Big 12 competition. However, the Hurricanes did face BYU in November at the Terry’s Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational, where Malovec played just four minutes.

At that time, BYU was ranked No. 9 nationally and featured projected lottery pick AJ Dybantsa, offering a level of competition similar to what Miami faced during ACC play. Malovec also saw minutes against ranked opponents like No. 22 Clemson and No. 11 North Carolina, and even scored against Virginia.

Like those teams, the Hurricanes reached the NCAA Tournament. Malovec faced Virginia twice both losses but played 10 or more minutes in each game. He did not score in the postseason after the ACC semifinal.

He fits in as one of four forwards on the roster, alongside Oregon transfer Dezdrick Lindsay, LSU transfer Matt Gilhool, and Georgetown transfer Isaiah Abraham. Each has experience playing against or within Power Four competition.

Anrej Kostic, the only returnee from the 2025-26 roster, also saw time off the bench at forward last season but is expected to shift to a guard role before November.
