North Carolina secured a significant addition from the transfer portal on Tuesday, securing a commitment from Utah guard Terrence Brown, as reported by Joe Tipton of On3. Brown, a dynamic scorer who attracted attention from several top-tier programs including Kentucky had originally planned to visit Lexington last week for a meeting with Mark Pope and the Wildcats, but that trip, along with other scheduled visits, was eventually called off.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard is coming off a standout season with the Utah Utes, where he posted averages of 19.9 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game. Starting all 32 contests and logging over 31 minutes per night, he shot 45.3% from the floor and 32.7% from three-point range. Brown began his college career at Fairleigh Dickinson, spending two seasons in the NEC and evolving into a high-volume scorer and aggressive, downhill playmaker. His game relies heavily on athleticism, transition scoring, and rim attacks, though improving his shooting consistency remains a key area for development at the next level.
Kentucky had been closely tracking Brown as it reshapes its backcourt following multiple departures, including Jaland Lowe, Denzel Aberdeen, Jasper Johnson, and Collin Chandler. However, the Wildcats had already added guards Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins, which helped shift their roster priorities.
In other news, Saint Mary’s forward Paulius Murauskas has officially signed with Arizona State, according to Pete Nakos of On3. This outcome had been widely anticipated after Randy Bennett—Murauskas’ coach with the Gaels took the head coaching job at Arizona State this offseason, instantly making the Sun Devils the frontrunner. Still, programs such as Kentucky and Louisville showed strong interest in the 6-foot-8, 235-pound big man, who even held a Zoom call with Mark Pope. Murauskas averaged 18.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while shooting 48.2% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc, establishing himself as one of college basketball’s top mid-major players.
Once Arizona State emerged as the clear favorite, nearly every school in the mix including the Wildcats eventually backed off. Kentucky then attempted to land either Sebastian Rancik or Donnie Freeman, though those pursuits proved unsuccessful. With all three players now off the board, Kentucky is turning its attention to James Madison transfer Justin McBride as a potential option at the power forward spot next season, ideally adding at least one more player for depth at that position.
