The NBA and NHL playoffs are currently underway, marking one of the most exciting stretches in the sports calendar. While former Kentucky Wildcats are rare in the NHL, the NBA features plenty of them. Several Cats are still in contention for an NBA title this season.

As the second round tips off, eight teams remain: the Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks, and Philadelphia 76ers. The only team without a former Wildcat is the Pistons.
Here’s a quick look at which Kentucky alumni are still competing:
-
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC)
-
Cason Wallace (OKC)
-
Jarred Vanderbilt (LAL)
-
Julius Randle (MIN)
-
De’Aaron Fox (SA)
-
Keldon Johnson (SA)
-
Olivier Sarr (CLE)
-
Karl-Anthony Towns (NYK)
-
Tyrese Maxey (PHI)
-
Justin Edwards (PHI)
At this point, the odds look strong for another former Wildcat to capture an NBA championship. The remaining rounds promise plenty of excitement as we watch to see who ultimately cuts down the nets.
