On Saturday, the Philadelphia Phillies fell to the Miami Marlins 4-0, marking their 20th loss of the season. Prior to the game, however, the team decided to remove Justin Crawford from the starting lineup.
According to MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki, the 22-year-old outfielder was sidelined due to a migraine. With Brandon Marsh also unavailable, the Phillies were forced to deploy a patchwork outfield.
“Justin Crawford has been scratched from the Phillies lineup because of a migraine. Garrett Stubbs will start in LF, Adolis Garcia in CF, and Felix Reyes in RF. Brandon Marsh got drilled on the right elbow last night, so he’s unavailable.”
This was only the fifth game Crawford has missed this season. The issue doesn’t appear serious, and the Phillies’ rookie should be back in action soon. In fact, it may have been an ideal game for him to sit out, as the team managed just one single hit in the entire contest against Miami on Saturday.
Although there is plenty of excitement surrounding Justin Crawford’s future, he is still refining his skills at the major league level. Over 93 at-bats, Crawford has collected 25 hits, no home runs, and six RBIs, posting a .269 batting average and a .340 on-base percentage.
The Phillies are now 1-1 in the four-game series against Miami. They’ll have a chance to bounce back with a win on Sunday, when they take on the Marlins at 1:40 p.m. EST.
