BIRMINGHAM — As 2025 kicks off, Birmingham City FC has already made its presence felt, both on and off the pitch. The club secured a hard-fought 3-1 victory against Cardiff City in their first match of the new year, extending their unbeaten run to five matches.
The Blues’ victory was marked by an impressive performance from forward Ivan Šunjić, who scored a brace and contributed to an early goal from midfielder Emmanuel Longelo. The match saw Birmingham City maintain control throughout, with new signing Leandro Tavares making an immediate impact by providing the assist for Longelo’s goal.
Manager John Eustace expressed satisfaction with the team’s display, stating, “It’s great to start the year with a win. We’ve been working hard, and the new signings have settled in quickly. There’s a real sense of unity, and the team is looking sharp.”
Off the pitch, the club made headlines with the recent acquisition of highly-rated winger Gabriel Campos from Portuguese side SC Braga. Campos is expected to bolster Birmingham City’s attack, adding depth to a squad that has been building momentum in the Championship.
“We’ve been looking for a dynamic player who can create chances, and Gabriel fits that mold perfectly,” Eustace commented. “He’s a player with high potential, and we’re excited to see him grow with us.”
With their sights set on securing a playoff spot and returning to the Premier League, Birmingham City is making strides toward its goal of promotion. Fans are hopeful that the combination of strong performances, smart signings, and team chemistry will help the club continue to rise as the 2024-2025 season progresses.
Next up for Birmingham is a challenging fixture against Norwich City, which will test the team’s resolve as they push for a place in the top six.
