On Monday, fans of Kansas, Kentucky, and Oregon were glued to their phones waiting for a commitment from Tyran Stokes, the No. 1 overall recruit in the class of 2026 but that announcement never came. Following rumors and reports suggesting Stokes might reveal his decision on Monday, supporters had hoped to see the end of this lengthy recruiting saga. However, the wait isn’t over yet, as Stokes still hasn’t made his pledge. Still, there’s hope that a resolution could come soon. For Kansas fans, analysts from 247Sports are offering some encouraging news that should please head coach Bill Self—though he’s not entirely in the clear.

247Sports predicts Kansas still leads for Tyran Stokes, but urges caution
The recruitment of Tyran Stokes has been a long and winding road. Many thought it would wrap up in late December 2025, but Stokes wasn’t ready to decide and postponed his commitment. At one point, Kentucky was considered the frontrunner, but pushes from Kansas and Oregon cast doubt on the Wildcats’ chances.

Now, in April 2026, the main obstacle preventing Stokes from already committing to Kansas appears to be his NIL deal with Nike, given that Kansas is an Adidas school. Isaac Trotter, a 247Sports basketball recruiting analyst, believes that if not for that deal, Stokes would have committed to Kansas long ago, and Self would already be building his roster around him.
Despite that complication, Trotter and fellow 247Sports analyst Travis Branham still view Kansas as the favorite to land Stokes’ commitment. Trotter cautioned, however, that Kansas shouldn’t overlook Oregon or Kentucky, as many other factors are at play in his final decision.
If this were a straightforward recruitment without outside influences, Trotter thinks Kansas would have been the choice a while back. But in today’s world of NIL deals, Stokes finds himself in a difficult position.
At this stage, a commitment could still come at any moment, so fans should stay alert for further updates on Stokes.
