Over the weekend, Alex Golesh’s recruiting momentum continued to build when three-star wide receiver Brylan Odour committed to Auburn, choosing the Tigers over rival Ole Miss, Indiana, South Florida, and several other programs.

Odour, who attends Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is ranked as the No. 51 wide receiver in the 2027 recruiting class and is considered a composite four-star prospect by 247Sports. As a junior last season at Blackman High School, the 6-foot-2 receiver hauled in 24 catches for 484 yards and eight touchdowns. He was a high-priority recruit for Golesh, who had extended him a scholarship while still at USF before taking the Auburn job during the past offseason.
According to 247Sports, Odour still plans to take official visits this summer to Indiana, USF, Auburn, and Ole Miss, with his trip to Auburn’s campus scheduled for June 5.
Odour becomes the fifth commitment for Golesh and his staff in the 2027 recruiting cycle, pushing Auburn’s team ranking to No. 34 nationally and 11th in the SEC, per 247Sports’ team rankings. He joins four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook, four-star defensive lineman Donivan Moore, three-star tight end George Lamons Jr., and three-star offensive lineman Jaylon Moore.
Although sitting 11th in the SEC isn’t exactly where Auburn wants to be in recruiting rankings, it raises the question of whether Golesh and his staff might be leaning more heavily on the transfer portal to bring in immediate contributors rather than investing solely in high school prospects. A balanced approach is likely the wiser strategy, but in today’s college football landscape, more and more teams appear to be prioritizing proven production at the collegiate level.

Consider Auburn’s offensive depth chart as an example: currently, only one starter running back Jeremiah Cobb played for the Tigers last season, while the other 10 starters are transfers, including quarterback Byrum Brown.
