BREAKING NEWS: Otega Oweh’s fate hinges on one NCAA ruling….what’s about to change?

The 5-for-5 rule has currently put a stop to offseason recruiting, as college basketball programs wait to see whether an entirely new wave of players becomes eligible if the rule is approved.

For Kentucky Basketball, it initially seemed unlikely that several players would return. Denzel Aberdeen has already committed to rejoin Todd Golden at Florida if the rule goes through, and Otega Oweh appeared to be heading toward the NBA.

However, a recent discussion with a recruit’s father has given Big Blue Nation renewed hope about a fifth year.

During a conversation with KSR’s Jacob Polacheck, Derrick Morton father of recruit Jerone Morton talked about his son’s recent visit to Lexington. His remarks about Oweh are what will generate buzz.

NCAA 5-in-5 rule is set to pass, but players like Otega Oweh won't be grandfathered in | A Sea Of Blue

“I heard that if the fifth year passes, Otega Oweh might come back. If he does return, that would likely push Jerone further down the depth chart in terms of playing time,” Morton Sr. said.

Could this rule actually bring Oweh back to Lexington? There seems to be more discussion around this possibility than initially expected.

Still, it remains uncertain whether the 5-in-5 rule will be approved, whether current players will be grandfathered in, or if the rule will only apply to incoming freshmen. And even if it passes, Oweh will probably continue with the NBA Draft process, waiting until closer to the NCAA withdrawal deadline on May 27 to announce his decision.

But if current players like Oweh are grandfathered in, it sounds like there’s a genuine chance he’ll be back in Lexington next season.
