BREAKING NEWS: Phillies sign 6-foot-3 Korean pitcher who ‘can really spin it’

The Philadelphia Phillies have been making moves in the international free agent market, signing a 17-year-old amateur from South Korea named Chan-min Park on Tuesday. According to Joe Doyle of MiLB.com, the National League East team reached an agreement with the young pitcher.

Doyle noted on X that Park, who stands 6’3″ and weighs 205 pounds, has already touched 94 mph with his fastball and possesses strong spin on his pitches. He throws four offerings: a fastball, slider, curveball, and changeup or splitter.

To complete the signing, the Phillies used international bonus pool money acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade that sent right-hander Griff McGarry to L.A. The Phillies clearly valued Park enough to make that swap. At only 17, he remains several years away from making an impact at the Major League level.

For now, Park doesn’t have a Baseball Reference page, and Philadelphia is expected to assign him to their rookie-level facility in Clearwater, Florida. While low-profile, this kind of move could pay long-term dividends for the Phillies.
