Former Arkansas standout James McCann doubled and recorded two hits, while Taylor Clarke (1–0) tossed a scoreless seventh to earn the victory. The Diamondbacks have now won four of their last five and claimed the series with two wins in three games.

Trea Turner homered for the Phillies, who dropped to 7–8 overall. Arizona entered the eighth inning trailing 3–2 but pushed across two runs against Jose Alvarado (0–1) to take the lead.

Philadelphia threatened in the bottom half with runners on the corners and no outs, but Kevin Ginkel struck out Bryson Stott, and Ryan Thompson induced Adolis García to pop out before Arizona doubled off Brandon Marsh at first to escape the inning. Paul Sewald then worked a clean ninth for his fifth save.

Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen held the Phillies scoreless through four innings before stumbling in the fifth. He faced five batters without recording an out and departed with the game tied 3–3. Turner’s opposite-field two-run homer and an RBI double off the right-field wall by Bryce Harper gave Philadelphia a brief lead. Gallen allowed eight hits, struck out two, and walked one.

Arizona struck first, going up 1–0 against emergency starter Zach Pop, who filled in for Andrew Painter after the rookie was scratched due to a migraine. Painter entered in the third inning and retired his first nine batters before Ildemaro Vargas opened the sixth with a double and later scored on Nolan Arenado’s sacrifice fly. Painter said he’d been dealing with head pressure and vomiting throughout the morning.

Painter exited after seven innings, having allowed one run on three hits with seven strikeouts and a walk, lowering his ERA from 4.82 to 3.77. The No. 13 pick in the 2021 draft, Painter previously injured his elbow in 2023 spring training and underwent Tommy John surgery that year. He won his MLB debut on April 1, giving up one run and five hits over 5 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts and one walk against Washington.
