Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian believes Auburn transfer Cam Coleman is poised to become the next elite newcomer to flourish in Austin. Sarkisian expects Coleman to take off once he fully settles into the offense—a process strengthened by the guidance of offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach Chris Jackson.

Sarkisian even went as far as making a bold projection that hints at an Arch Manning Heisman push: the combination of Coleman and fellow standout Ryan Wingo could elevate both receivers’ performances.
“I think it helps both of them,” Sarkisian said. “Both guys are used to defenses shading the safety toward them. But when a defense only has one safety, they can only cheat so much. And if they play split safeties, that naturally helps our run game.

“For Cam, he’s developing every day. Ryan Wingo, Daylan McCutcheon, and Emmett Mosley deserve credit for helping him learn the system. His athletic ability is obvious it’s just about mastering the details of what we want to accomplish, and he’ll get there. We’ve had a strong history of transfers at wide receiver figuring things out here, so we feel good about him.”
Why Cam Coleman is a better fit at Texas than at Auburn
Coleman’s decision to flip from Texas A&M to Auburn was one of the high points of the Hugh Freeze era—well, that and Auburn’s 43–41 win over the Aggies in Week 13 of the 2024 season, when Coleman exploded for 128 yards and two touchdowns. He later topped that with 143 yards against Vanderbilt in 2025, though that game ended in a 45–38 loss in Nashville.

Could Coleman have kept producing big numbers in the Auburn offense run by Alex Golesh and Joel Gordon, catching passes from elite USF transfer quarterback Byrum Brown? Sure but not at a level that best supports his NFL draft ambitions, especially with so many USF receivers transferring in alongside Brown.
Coleman thrived close to home in Phenix City, but now he turns the page. In Central Texas, he’ll have a chance to maximize his potential playing in a high-powered offense with a Manning at quarterback and a roster loaded with more than $30 million in talent.
