Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson will star in the musical film Song Sung Blue
The 56-year-old actor and the 45-year-old “Almost Famous” star will star in the Focus Features film, in which they play a married couple who form a Neil Diamond tribute band.
“Song Sung Blue,” directed and written by Craig Brewer, is based on Greg Koh’s 2008 documentary of the same name, which told the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, two Milwaukee musicians who became local legends . . performing hits from singer Sweet Caroline called Lightning and Thunder.
Jackman and Hudson will be joined in the cast by Michael Imperioli, Fisher Stevens, Jim Belushi, Ella Anderson, King Princess, as well as Mustafa Shakir and Hudson Hilbert Hensley. Jackman was last seen in Marvel’s Deadpool and Wolverine, reprising his role as the iconic mutant superhero alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth after a seven-year hiatus.
Although he enjoyed playing Wolverine again, the actor admitted that he didn’t miss the character “for a long time.”
Speaking to Variety, The Greatest Showman star said: “I didn’t miss it for a long time. And then, literally, it came to me one day while I was driving to the beach. I knew I wanted to do this. Literally stopped the car, got out and called Ryan. He said to me, “Are you serious?”, I replied, “I’m serious.” And I hung up.”
Although he had “no reservations” about reprising the character in the film, Jackman insisted that the team needed to give him and the fans a “good reason why he exists” after the heroic sacrifice of Wolverine in “Logan”.
He continued: “I think maybe I should call my agent. I haven’t booked to come back, but I was really happy with ‘Logan.’
