SoCal Academy 4-star senior Jacob Ross, 7-foot-8, will announce his college decision Thursday afternoon after visiting the Gophers last week. Gophers men’s basketball coach Ben Johnson offered former Cal 4-star Jacob Ross a scholarship last Friday, but it didn’t take long for the recruiting process to heat up. The 7-foot-8 wing from SoCal Academy plans to make his college announcement Thursday around 5 p.m., after visiting the Gophers last weekend.
Johnson traveled to Los Angeles earlier in the week to watch Ross practice. He is a four-star prospect by 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN. A native of Northern Virginia, he transferred to Southern California after playing at Long Island Lutheran in New York last season. “He’s really become a true two-way player,” SoCal Academy coach Julius Von Hanzlik said. “He can play any perimeter position at the high school level. He’s physical, athletic and strong enough to defend almost any position on the field. He was a leader for us. »Ross’ older brother, Jayden, was a four-star recruit and top-100 offensive tackle in the class of 2023 entering his sophomore season at defending NCAA champion UConn. Their playing styles are a little different, the younger Ross said.
