An emotional interaction between Miranda Hart and Selena Gomez on The Graham Norton Show left viewers in tears on Friday night (October 11).
British comedian Hart, 51, has opened up about his battle with Lyme disease in a new autobiography called I Haven’t Been Completely Honest With You. During his appearance on Graham Norton’s BBC show, he thanked Selena Gomez for the inspiration to open up about his diagnosis. Selena Gomez, the 32-year-old star of Only Murders in the Building, starred in an Apple TV + 2022 documentary called My Mind & Me, which followed her life and well-being after being diagnosed with lupus and bipolar disorder.
When the two stars shared the couch on The Graham Norton Show, Hart began thanking Selena Gomez for giving her the “courage” to write about her medical crisis.
“I saw Selena Gomez’s documentary and it gave me the courage to be vulnerable and share my feelings about my illness,” she said. “It allowed me to continue writing.” Selena Gomez can be seen crying in the narration of Selena Gomez – and so can the viewers. Fans of The Graham Norton Show shared heartfelt reactions on X/Twitter.
“This is so touching,” wrote one. “An interaction between Miranda Hart and Selena Gomez in 2024 is still so surreal to me. “I don’t think I’ve ever cried on the Graham Norton Show before,” said another. “Selena and Miranda are two of the my greatest inspiration and being chronically ill myself, this moment meant everything to me.
“Anyone else cry seeing Selena cry?” wrote the official Graham Norton Show account, prompting many others to respond positively.
Hart’s memoir covers his retreat from the spotlight in recent years. In the book, he writes that he felt like an “outsider” because of his health problems and anxiety attacks. “I was weak, but also lucky in many ways – I was afraid of being seen as a complainer,” he writes. “Now I understand why so many experts and therapists have become like this after their recovery – I think especially about the help I received from the Optimum Health clinic and why, among other things, they called it an “invisible chronic disease”. Invisibility it’s part of the problem.”

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that can cause serious physical and mental problems if allowed to progress. People most often get Lyme disease through a tick bite, if a tick has previously bitten an infected animal.
