In a recent interview with People magazine, Claire Danes discussed her fondest memories of working on the teen drama series My So-Called Life, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. During her candid chat with the publication, Danes also shared her thoughts on filming Season 1, Episode 12, titled Self Esteem, where her character Angela Chase kissed Jordan Catalano, played by her co- star on the screen, Jared Leto. The actress shared: “There was a prompt on the screen that said, ‘Angela kisses Jordan’s face.’ ” She added: “I was so confused (referring to the vase scene). I was like, what? For what? I can imagine a mouth to mouth kiss The Danes said that Leto had to explain, which made the situation a little “awkward” The Flock actress also told the media that Leto was more of a big brother off camera and that he was very supportive and even took him to his first club when he was only 14. This brotherly dynamic made him care and he appreciated the way he looked after him during his collaboration in My So-Called Danes spoke about Leto, saying: “I was very touched, even at the time, that he reached me like that and made that gesture”, noting that it was “sweet”.
Claire Danes, who landed the lead role when she was 14, also said she found it easy to relate to her character, Angela Chase. She told the publication that she had never come across a role that so accurately reflected her experiences as a teenager at the time. Danes was excited to see her inner feelings and experiences articulated through her character on the show. The actress described the writing as “amazing and intuitive”, noting that it felt very true to her life and that she didn’t have to work hard to relate.
