It’s gameday, Bills Mafia, so wake up! The Buffalo Bills have the opportunity to secure the second seed in the AFC playoff picture when they host the Jets in their home finale of the regular season. Sean McDermott should rest his starters when Buffalo visits New England the following week if the Bills end Week 17 with a victory. Not only are there playoff possibilities at stake in this game, but Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson appear to be vying for MVP once again. Both of these outstanding quarterbacks were selected in the 2018 NFL Draft and are frequently brought up when discussing MVP. Allen is searching for his first MVP award, while Jackson has two.
Allen emerged as the clear favorite to win the award this season, but Jackson has been challenging Allen in the last few games. But in Week 17 against the Jets, Buffalo’s great quarterback has an opportunity to maintain his lead over Jackson.
Throughout the season, fans have witnessed Allen break both franchise and NFL records. Today, against a Jets defense that has been terrible all season, he will get another opportunity to accomplish it.
The first record Allen can establish, via the Buffalo Bills PR X account, is to become the first player in NFL history to have five straight seasons with 40 or more touchdowns. He just needs two touchdowns in total. Allen is more than capable of doing it. Allen has the potential to equal former Bills running back Thurman Thomas for the most rushing touchdowns in team history (65) if he scores one. It’s incredible to consider that Allen can and will break the franchise’s record for most rushing touchdowns. If he stays fit, he has four to five more years of fantastic football remaining in him. He is in his prime. Nevertheless, being the first player to have 40+ touchdowns in five straight seasons should put Allen ahead in the MVP race with Jackson. Since 2018, Jackson has only had 40+ touchdowns in a season twice in his career, yet Allen is about to make it his 5th consecutive season of doing it. Not to mention, Allen helped lead the Bills to their 5th consecutive AFC East title in Week 13.There’s so much more that Allen has done rather than Jackson this season. Unless Allen completely falls apart in these next two games, he should be voted as the MVP award without question.
