21 carries and caught a touchdown pass. The Wolfpack offense showed flashes of brilliance, but inconsistency in the red zone and missed opportunities in the first three quarters ultimately held them back.

The NC State defense, meanwhile, struggled to contain ECU’s powerful running attack. Despite allowing over 300 rushing yards, they were unable to adjust and stop the onslaught. The Wolfpack’s inability to get off the field on third downs and their struggles against the run were key issues in the loss.

Heading into the 2025 season, the Wolfpack have some critical areas to address. While their offensive skill players like Bailey and Smothers showed potential, they will need to find more consistency in the red zone and shore up their defensive front to compete in the ACC. Defensive coordinator Tony Gibson will likely focus on improving the Wolfpack’s run defense, which was a glaring weakness in this game and throughout the season.

For NC State, the offseason will be a time of reflection and rebuilding, as they look to rebound from a disappointing end to a season that had high hopes early on. The coaching staff will have to figure out how to fine-tune their offensive game plan and get more out of their defense to ensure they’re ready for the tough road ahead in 2025.
