Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel joked about his staff finding the suspect in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson attractive. During his show, Kimmel shared text messages from his staff discussing how good-looking and likable they found Luigi Mangione, the Ivy League graduate accused of the crime.
Kimmel mentioned the unexpected popularity of the suspected killer online, even among his own team. Other well-known media personalities, like former Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz, have also seemed to glamorize the alleged assassin and people celebrating Thompson’s death on social media. On the show “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Lorenz mentioned that the killing actually made her feel happy. However, she later tried to explain her feelings on the show. He talked about his employees, saying, “This is something new for me. These are real screenshots of conversations between our staff and their friends or family.” I have replaced the names to keep their identity hidden but, um…” He then shared some of these conversations with the crowd, who thought they were really funny.
“Lorraine C wonders, ‘Do you all think the UnitedHealthcare CEO murderer is attractive?’ Their friend answers, ‘Yes, I think Luigi is great.’ I believe he is homosexual.’
