The San Francisco 49ers suffered a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2, but Kyle Shanahan isn’t pointing fingers. In fact, the 49ers coach wanted to back up rookie WR Jacob Cowing after last Sunday’s game loss.
Cowing dropped a point in San Francisco’s 23-17 loss at Minnesota, but avoided a major disaster thanks to Isaac Yiadom’s fumble recovery. It’s the kind of mistake the 49ers can’t make, but Shanahan blames it as an exception to Cowing’s overall performance.
“It’s a lost game,” Shanahan said, according to NBC Sports. “When it comes to catching things, he’s been as natural a receiver as we’ve had in our eight years here, just in practice, like in the games. I know this has escaped him, which is not possible . But everyone misses it. We just hope that was the end.” Cowing has shown promise since joining San Francisco as a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, however. so his dunks stick out like a sore thumb in this early phase of his career.
