Skyridge QB Kaneal Sweetwyne Chooses BYU: A Future Star Commits to the Cougars
Skyridge High quarterback Kaneal Sweetwyne has officially committed to BYU, marking a significant milestone in his recruitment journey. BYU, the first program to extend an offer to Sweetwyne, has secured a rising talent who also garnered attention from Utah State and Washington State.
Sweetwyne becomes the third commitment in BYU’s 2026 class, joining Lehi EDGE PJ Takitaki and Gilbert, Arizona’s Justice Brathwaite. He is the first offensive player to commit, solidifying the Cougars’ future on that side of the ball. Ranked as the 17th overall prospect in Utah, Sweetwyne earned 6A Honorable Mention honors from the Deseret News after an impressive junior season. He passed for 2,633 yards and rushed for 957 yards, accounting for 29 total touchdowns (19 passing, 10 rushing).
Though his season saw some growing pains with 16 interceptions, Sweetwyne led Skyridge to the 6A Semifinals, showcasing his resilience and leadership. His performance earned him MVP honors at the Under Armour Next camp in Salt Lake City last June.
Sweetwyne’s bond with BYU deepened after a visit to the campus last April, where he received mentorship from former BYU quarterback Jaren Hall. He becomes the first Utah high school quarterback to commit to BYU since Ryder Burton in the 2023 cycle.
With BYU continuing to build its program under the Big 12 banner, Sweetwyne’s commitment promises to add another electrifying talent to the Cougars’ quarterback future.
