Max Verstappen also spoke about the reasons that could lead him to leave F1 and how seriously the FIA could take his retirement talks.
The three-time F1 champion held an impromptu press conference after qualifying and the race in Singapore this weekend after choosing not to give lengthy answers at official FIA press conferences.
This was in response to the motor sports organization that sanctioned the Dutchman for swearing during a press conference last Thursday.
After describing his car as “f****d” during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Verstappen is now required to do a day of community service.
After his second-place finish at the Marina Bay road circuit on Sunday, Verstappen revealed the “stupid” situation could push him towards an early retirement. In response to Verstappen’s sanction, GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers’ Association) president Alex Wurz confirmed that the drivers will discuss “internally” how to proceed.
Verstappen received considerable support from his F1 teammates in response to his penalty, with Lewis Hamilton calling the penalty a “joke”.
The Red Bull driver knows that F1 will continue without him if he retires prematurely from the sport, but there will come a point where he can no longer.
“I mean, I’m not serious that [the FIA] take this kind of thing,” Verstappen told several media outlets, including RacingNews365.
“But for me, of course, at some point, that’s enough. We’ll see. As I said, racing will continue, F1 will continue without me, it’s not a problem for me. That’s right.”
