Will Jennings, who co-wrote hits for Celine Dion, Steve Winwood, Whitney Houston, Barry Manilow and many others, has died. He died Friday morning at his home in Tyler, Texas, after five or six years of declining health, his caregiver Martha Sherrod told The Hollywood Reporter. He was 80 years old. Will Jennings is best known for writing the lyrics to Eric Clapton’s “Tears In Heaven” and Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” In 2006, he was inducted into the Singers Hall of Fame. He received three Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and two Academy Awards, and also wrote for B.B. King, Joe Sample, Rodney Crowell, Mariah Carey, Jimmy Buffett and Roy Orbison. The musician Peter Wolf paid tribute to Jennings with a post on Facebook: “Too good are gone”… A sad moment, the passing of Will Jennings, a teacher, a brilliant mind and a kind soul. Will shared his talents with me, always patient and generous, was a valued friend and teacher, enriching my life in many ways. It was a tremendous honor to work with such a musical genius for so many years… To quote one of his favorite poets, W.B Yeats, “Think where most human glory begins and ends, and say that my glory I had such friends.
