Ja’Marr Chase, the standout wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, is set for a significant financial boost with the team exercising the fifth-year option on his contract. This decision, made ahead of the May 2 deadline, guarantees him a salary of $21.8 million for the 2025 season. This is part of the salary structure under the 2020 Collective Bargaining Agreement, which outlines various pay levels for players on their fifth-year options. As a three-time Pro Bowl selection, Chase is in the highest tier, ensuring his compensation aligns with the franchise tag price for wide receivers.
Chase’s base salary for the current season is relatively modest at $1.1 million, but this raise underscores his value to the Bengals. Despite being eligible for an extension since March 14, Chase and the team have yet to finalize a long-term deal. Chase has indicated his interest in securing an extension this offseason, but he’s waiting to see what kind of deal fellow LSU alum and Minnesota Vikings star, Justin Jefferson, receives. For Chase, the primary focus in negotiations is the amount of guaranteed money up front.
