49ers to Strengthen Secondary with Hire of Boston College’s Ray Brown as Cornerbacks Coach

The San Francisco 49ers have solidified their defensive blueprint under Robert Saleh, and now they’re bolstering their coaching staff with key hires. One of the latest additions is Ray Brown, the seasoned secondary coach from Boston College, who will take over as the team’s cornerbacks coach.

Boston College reportedly makes pair of hires for defensive staff

According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Brown, who spent the 2024 season coaching the Eagles’ secondary under Bill O’Brien and previously served as Washington State’s cornerbacks coach for two years, is set to join the 49ers. His arrival comes at a critical time, as San Francisco looks to further elevate their defensive backfield, which was previously managed by Daniel Bullocks and Andrew Hayes-Stoker.

Although no official announcement has been made yet, Brown will likely focus on developing cornerbacks, working closely with Deommodore Lenoir, who recently secured a five-year extension, and rising star Renardo Green, who emerged as a standout in 2024. With a promising secondary in place, Brown’s expertise could play a key role in maintaining and advancing the unit’s upward trajectory under Saleh’s defensive system.
